ACADEMICS (FULL-TIME ACADEMY)
With an emphasis on blended learning, the North Miami Beach Academy (NMBA) academic school program engages the student/athlete in the larger global community by emphasizing that learning is not limited to the classroom. Academic excellence will be achieved by seeking to explore, pursue and implement the best practices in education. Implementation of best practices will result in continuous changes to instruction with an on-going emphasis on individual education and incorporation of technology. The result will create a student-centered learning environment that encourages all student/athletes to reach their academic and athletic potential producing graduates that have access to universities with the highest academic standards.
The philosophy of NMBA School academic program is to develop champions in the classroom with personalized programs and guided and exploratory learning that teaches critical thinking and life skills.
At North Miami Beach Academy, we are strong believers that a dynamic learning culture is achieved when the soft and practical skills of an individual are developed, then applied and measured within a competitive platform. Individualization, skill development, and competitive competence are at the forefront of NMBA'S educational philosophy. We value the strong connection that our school makes with its families, and are pleased to have the opportunity to share the history and vision of North Miami Beach Academy with you.
Model for Learning
Using the Breunich Scalable High-Performance Model for Learning, we develop:
Our learning methodology is different from most, in that we believe that every student must have a specialization of interest when entering into our environment. That specialization, or passion, is the connecting point for engagement with each individual student. It’s at this place where the learning process begins.
We are strong believers that a dynamic learning culture is achieved when the soft and practical skills of an individual are developed, then applied, and measured within a competitive platform.
Individualization, skill development, and competitive competence are at the forefront of our learning model. We value the strong connection that our programs make with students.
With more than 40 years in education, our school’s blended approach ensures those who participate receive an excellent education, have the opportunity to attend some of the finest universities in the United States, and become life-long learners with a keen interest in high achievement. The NMBA school and its principals have placed hundreds of students in colleges and universities throughout the United States, many on an athletic and academic scholarship.
OUR SCHOOL MEETS THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE
North Miami Beach Academy is a registered accredited educational brick-and-mortar school with traditional classroom instruction utilizing a fully accredited K-12 curriculum in the State of Florida. NMBA is fully accredited by Cognia (AdvancED) Accreditation Commission, the NCA Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, the Northwest Accreditation Commission, and the SAC’s Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.
It is important to us that every student has a passion and an area of focus. At the crux of our approach are three blended elements: Sports, Academics, and the Arts.
Within each of these components, there are subjects of specialty, or focus, for example, tennis, engineering, math, coding, writing, languages, acting/improvisation, voice, instrument, reading, music writing, music for film, photography, drawing, painting, sketching, dance, and culinary. Within the areas of specialty, the student participates in their area of major 5 hours per day in one 2-hour and one 3-hour block of time. The other segments of the model are the core required studies. The student participates in core studies 4 hours per day in 2-hour blocks of time.
Core studies include Math, English, Science, Social Studies, World Languages, Fine Art, and Physical Education. NMBA is a skill-oriented competitive learning-based program.
We currently operate a highly regimented and customized brick-and-mortar delivery with a very low student to teacher ratio of 6:1-8:1 as well as 20:1 lecture sessions. Each student attends class 4 hours per day Monday through Friday.
Monday- Friday, the typical day is 2 hours of academics and 2 hours of sport, art or academic academy training in the morning, followed by 2 hours of academics and 2 hours of sports training in the afternoon.
